In 2017, Frontier was five years old and showing signs of wanting his own band. At that time, Clinker, the band stallion, was suffering from an old injury and was unable to fend off a younger stallion. In the summer of 2017, Frontier made his move and took Lacey, Whiskey, and Volt from Clinker, starting his first band. Over the years, he gained and lost mares to his older brother Flax. However, by the end of 2022, Frontier was maintaining a band of six, which included his foal Flyer. They added to the band again that year when Anuk gave birth to her first foal, a colt named Kodiak, who was sired by Flax. In 2024, Frontier would add one more member to the band when he came across mare Poppy after she had been removed from her natal band.
