The Amazing Flame
Hello everyone! After some brief rain today, I set out to the Park in hopes of checking on Flame and her foal. It took some looking around since they had moved since last night but I was able to locate them. The baby was sleeping in the warm sun when I arrived. After a short nap, I was able to confirm that Eileen of Wild in North Dakota was correct and she is a little filly! She and Flame are still alone, as they have been since yesterday, but they are moving closer to their band. At first, I was worried that they were still alone but after spending some time with them I realized that Flame is doing what is needed for her baby girl. She is a very small foal and not strong enough to follow the band right now. She needs to be in a safe space to rest, drink lots of milk, and get stronger and Flame is providing that for her. I have no doubt that Flame knows where Red Face is and could go to her band at any time but is choosing to stay in a location that is best for her filly. That is what makes her a GREAT mom! These horses never cease to amaze me and she really is an extraordinary mare. Hopefully, when the time is right, the two of them will make it back to Red Face but for now, they are alright on their own. Please continue to keep them both in your thoughts and we will update you when we can. Thanks for all your support!
