Independent Woman

Hello everyone! Today we will look at one of the amazing older mares in this herd, 2001 Mare, Bella. She is the mother to the late stallion Sidekick as well as Chance, the stallion who took over the band when he passed. However, last month, Bella seemed to have decided to spend her final years with a stallion who is not her son. We came across Bella on several occasions at the beginning of December ‘visiting,’ if you will, with Remington and his band. She would then return to Chance or he would come looking for her. After a couple of weeks of visiting, Bella made the move official and has been with Remington ever since.
Many of you have asked me over the years if the mares make decisions for themselves. I always say it depends on the mare. Well, Bella, in my mind, chose to leave and she could not have picked a more stunning stallion! I mean seriously, how many now 24-year-old mares decide that they want to be with one of the best-looking stallions in the park and then make it happen?! Amazing. We wish her nothing but the best with Remington and all I can say is “Well done Bella, well done.” Below is a look at Bella as she moved into Remington’s band and a little more on the story. Enjoy!

Mare Bella and her new band stallion Remington

Bella watches as stallion Chance is not happy that his mother is once again hanging out with Remington. Ember’s Girl and her filly Emery, members of Remington’s band, are in the background. Chance came and got Bella a few minutes after this. She moved in with Remington a week later.

All settled in now. The other morning the field was covered in hoarfrost (it is a thing here). I came across Remington lying down while his new mare Bella and his beautiful mare Lakota kept watch over him. So peaceful.
