A Family’s Love and Protection
Hello everyone. Today I wanted to share another story from the day Chance was born. As if seeing his birth wasn’t enough for one day, I also witnessed a tension filled few minutes soon after. He hadn’t gotten up to take his first steps yet when Arrowhead’s band moved into the area. Arrowhead didn’t seem interested in the band at first but one of his mares was and it caught his attention. He quickly ran over to move his mare and that is when he ran into an issue with Mist, Sidekick, and their yearling filly, Misty Blue. It was over in a matter of minutes, but it seemed like an eternity especially, with little Chance on the ground through it all. These horses will do whatever it takes to protect one another and on this day I saw it first-hand. Below are a few photos of how it all happened. I will write under each photo to better explain the story. Luckily, it all worked out and Chance is doing great today with his amazing family.
Arrowhead took notice of Bella and started to walk over to the band. Mist immediately put herself in front of him to stop him from going any further. You can see Bella looking after Chance who is still on the ground.
This photo shows the strength and love these horses have for one another. When Arrowhead first approached, Mist tried to hold him off. Bella protected Chance and what blew me away is Mist’s yearling, Misty Blue, lined up with her mom to protect the new foal. The fact that she puts herself closer to Arrowhead than her mom is remarkable. She is one strong filly and has shown she is just as tough as her mother since the first day I saw her.
Finally, Sidekick takes notice of the situation and moves in to protect Bella and Chance.

Arrowhead means business and Misty Blue does her best to let her dad handle the situation while she gets out of the way. Sidekick quickly handled it and Arrowhead left the band alone.
