Life of a Horse Tracker

Hello everyone! As I was driving home from checking horses today I realized that some of the new people to this page may not understand what I exactly do out here each week. Documenting this herd means more to me than just taking pretty pictures of the horses. Don’t get me wrong, I love when I leave for the day with a beautiful image of the horses to share with you all. However, many times I only come home with what I call documenting photos. I take a photo of every band I see when I’m out there to document several things. 1) Is everyone there that should be. We have needed this type of photo in the past to know the last time we saw a certain horse. 2) I often document mares who look pregnant so if needed I can help the park figure out their birthdate. We don’t always find a band right after a mare has foaled so having these pictures helps narrow down when they were born. 3) When changes happen, I will do my best to document it for my own records and to share with you as well. These are a few examples of what I am doing in the park each week. I try to get eyes on as many bands as I can each time I go out. Even if I can’t physically hike to them I will still take a long distance photo to document everyone is there. In the last two days, I have had eyes on 11 bands and 5 bachelors. To me, that’s a great week for this time of year! While I wish I could hike to them all, I sometimes have to settle for a long distance shot. So if you are new to the page, I hope I have given you some insight into what I do out in the park and the purpose of this page. I love this herd, spending time with them, and sharing them with all of you. Now with all that being said, here are some pretty pictures of Thunder and his band taken just before our snow started to melt. Have a great weekend and thanks for all the support! ❤️
